CUSTOM-MADE DENIM FOR TOM CRUISE IN NEW TOP GUN MOVIE
The Vince Straight Boot Fit, created exclusively for Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun Maverick, is made from luxurious Italian denim with a slight stretch for added comfort and ease of movement. The fit was customized for Tom with extra room in the hip and thigh, and a slight ease at the bottom to fit over his character’s boots. Although technically boot cut, the additional width at the bottom of the jeans is distributed in such a way that the silhouette maintains a straight and clean appearance. Additionally, the denim features a medium vintage wash inspired by a pair of jeans from the 1950s.
We collaborated with renowned costume designer Marlene Stewart to create custom denim for Tom Cruise’s reprisal of the iconic Pete “Maverick” Mitchell character in the new Top Gun movie, slated for release May 27. As you can imagine, Tom is VERY involved in all aspects of his work and he and the team ended up selecting the Vince denim for the film out of 50 other options. Marlene, along with her assistant designer Anthony Franco, worked with our team to create a custom wash and fit tailored to Tom’s needs – a little wider in the thigh, a bit of stretch for movement (important in an action film!) and slight boot cut at the hem to accommodate his riding boots.
